Thailand’s islands are nothing short of breathtaking, each offering something unique to different kinds of travellers. The three islands I explored—Phi Phi, Koh Tao, and Phuket—stood out in their own ways.
– Phi Phi is perfect for younger travellers looking for party cruises and late-night fun.
– Koh Tao is ideal for diving and laid-back vibes.
– Phuket is the largest and most developed, great for families and travellers seeking a resort-style experience.
🌟 Highlights & Recommendations
🛥 Koh Tao & Phi Phi
Koh Tao and Phi Phi were my personal favourites. Phi Phi had the energy and walkability I wanted, while Koh Tao offered a relaxing escape and the freedom to explore via scooter.
🌴 Phi Phi:
– Experience the vibrant nightlife and beach parties
– Take a day cruise for snorkeling, kayaking, and beach-hopping
🌊 Koh Tao:
– Ideal for scuba diving; one of the cheapest places to get certified
– Rent a scooter and explore the island at your own pace
Pro Tip: Don’t overdo it on Phi Phi—it’s fun, but you’ll need sleep eventually! As for Koh Tao, despite rumors about safety, just be smart and trust your instincts—you’ll be fine.
⛵️ Phuket
Phuket felt like ‘Bangkok by the sea.’ If I could do it again, I’d fly into Phuket at the start of my trip—it might have left a better impression.
Bangla Road: Great nightlife, similar to Bangkok’s Khao San Road
Beach Day: Escape the chaos with a quiet day at one of the many beaches
Big Buddha: A peaceful, scenic attraction worth visiting
Phuket has its charm, but if you’re starting your trip in Bangkok, consider other islands instead.
⚠️ Lessons Learned
1. Be Aware of Your Safety
If you’re renting a scooter, make sure to have an international driver’s license—fines aren’t worth it. Be smart about your choices, do your own research, and always trust your gut.
2. Spend the Money
You’ve probably saved for this trip—so spend the money! Splurge on once-in-a-lifetime experiences and try new things. You’ll thank yourself later.
Moral of the story: Have fun, be safe, and indulge in unforgettable experiences.
✅ Final Thoughts
I absolutely loved the islands in southern Thailand—they’re lively, beautiful, and full of adventure. Put Phi Phi and Koh Tao on your must-see list. As for Phuket—visit if time allows.
Thailand’s islands have their own rhythm, rich culture, and amazing food. Don’t miss the chance to explore them!
