Bangkok, wow—what a city. I thought Canadian cities were busy until I arrived in Bangkok and discovered what real chaos looks like. I had to relearn how to cross the street (spoiler: red lights don’t always mean stop). This city has a pulse—alive 24/7, buzzing with activity and energy.
From exploring temples and tasting street food by day to vibrant night markets and rooftop bars by night, Bangkok is a city that never rests.
🌟 Highlights and Recommendations
🛕 Temple Hopping
Thailand is a predominantly Buddhist country, and its temples are some of the most stunning you’ll ever see. My favorite?
Wat Pho – Home to The Reclining Buddha :
- 15 meters high, 46 meters long
- Incredible artwork and architecture
- Great historical significance
Pro Tip: Visit early in the morning to beat the heat and avoid crowds. And remember—cover your shoulders and knees (T-shirts and long pants are recommended).
🌃 Bangkok Nightlife
Whether you’re a party animal or a chill drink-with-a-view type, Bangkok’s nightlife has something for everyone:
- Khao San Road, Patpong, & Sukhumvit Soi 11: Wild, energetic, and a bit chaotic—perfect if you want to party till sunrise.
- Sky Bars: Pricier but worth it for panoramic views and high-end cocktails. A quieter alternative to the street madness.
- Night Markets: My favorites were in Chinatown and Asiatique the Riverfront. Also check out:

⚠️ Lessons Learned the Hard Way
1. Don’t Overstay
I stayed in Bangkok for 10 days, with a quick trip to Pattaya (spoiler: don’t go to Pattaya). Way too long. You can hit the main highlights in 3–4 days.
Spend the rest of your time exploring other parts of Thailand—there’s so much to see beyond the city.
2. Scams Are an Art Form Here
Let me share a story you might find funny (now that it’s over):
The “Local Tip” Tuk Tuk Scam
A friendly stranger gave me a list of temples and a “fashion show” to visit. He even flagged down a Tuk Tuk that’d drive me around for just 40 baht (~$1.50 CAD).
Long story short:
- Visited a small temple
- Got pitched at a tailor shop and dropped $700+ CAD on a custom suit
- Realized too late that it was a well-rehearsed scam
- Got a ride back for 40 baht, as promised
Embarrassing? Sure. But I got a decent suit, a tour, and a good story out of it.
Moral of the story: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be friendly—but skeptical.
✅ Final Thoughts
Bangkok is a whirlwind: part beautiful, part overwhelming, always unforgettable.
- Go for a few days
- Embrace the chaos
- Stay sharp
- And always try the street food!
